Six years ago, ME SOLshare Ltd. installed the world's first peer-to-peer (P2P) energy exchange network with the aim to distribute clean and affordable energy across rural communities in Bangladesh. The end of 2021  marked the installation and activation of the 100th grid, achieving a major milestone for the company and for swarm electrification. ME SOLshare capped off 2021 with big nominations: SOLshare competes in the category of Fix The Climate ; SOLshare became one of the 15 finalists of the inaugural Earthshot Prize competition and SOLshare was chosen as one of the finalists for the Zayed Sustainability Prize 2022 under the category of Energy.

Alongside basking in the triumphs of the SOLgrids, the company expanded their P2P technology to take on yet another enormous sector: e-mobility in rural Bangladesh. The company’s battery management software monitors and monetizes power flows between electric rickshaws and solar charging stations and provides more efficient battery technology through an affordable pay-as-you-go (PAYG) battery model-leasing system. As of now, five electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are already functioning across the country.

More recently, MEI warmly welcomed Salma Islam (Head of Projects, Fundraising, and Communications at SolShare) for the Biannual exchange meet between MEI & SOLshare to work at our head office in Berlin. While she was in Berlin, she presented at the Start-Up Energy Transition Award’21 under the category “Quality Energy Access & SDG-7”. We appreciate and extend our gratitude for sharing her knowledge and valuable experience as well as making this exchange-meet a big success.
