Business Model Innovations Addressing Environmental Sustainability and Circularity -  Case Studies

The report is part of a series of publications derived from the Business Model Innovations for Productive Use and Cooking Appliance Access research project. The research focuses on business model innovations that can help overcome challenges in providing rural, off-grid communities with productive use and electrical cooking appliances. It was commissioned by the Low Energy Inclusive Appliances (LEIA) programme.

Terminal Evaluation of the UN Environment/GEF Project “Market Transformation for Energy Efficient Lighting in Morocco”

March 2021

 

This report is a terminal evaluation of a UNEP-GEF project implemented between September 2011 and June 2019. The GEF-funded project “Market Transformation for Energy Efficient Lighting in Morocco” was designed to support Morocco in phasing out incandescent bulbs in the residential, municipal, institutional and tertiary sectors by restricting the supply of less energy-efficient lighting products through legislative initiatives; and promoting the demand for energy-efficient lighting products at all levels.

Baseline Study of the Solar PV Market in Nigeria

 

This baseline report will provide an overview of the Nigerian renewable energy market focusing on solar PV modules, batteries, charge controllers, inverters and energy meters. It aims at understanding the market size, installed capacity and sales volume, penetration of different technologies, trends and developments, local manufacturing capacity, and recycling facilities. Apart from understanding the market, the study also outlines the relevant international and regional standards that exist compared to the standards considered for national adoption.

Assessment of Solar PV Component Standards, Certification and Testing Facilities in Nigeria

 

This report assesses and appraises the standardisation, certification, and testing facilities in Nigeria for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, batteries, charge controllers, inverters, and energy meters. A needs assessment was done for a local PV component testing facility in consultation with the public and private stakeholders through a survey which also helps to understand the status quo of the testing facilities and quality assurance processes in Nigeria.

Analysis and Assessment of Global Green Finance Products, Services and Programs in Rural Areas

This publication is the result of MEI’s assessment of successful green finance products, services and programs aimed at supporting rural areas worldwide and the selection of the 10 case studies with the highest potential for implementation in Mexico. The results of this assessment will be published as an online catalogue presenting, among other relevant information, the financial institution implementing the program; the green solution being promoted; an overview of the financial product and the good practices and lessons learned, with an emphasis on their applicability to the context of rural Mexico. These case studies will facilitate the design of initiatives to support the Mexican rural sector at a later stage.

The case studies are authored by MicroEnergy International GmbH and will be published in English and Spanish language by the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation
